From USNews.com:
Who doesn’t love a good summer party? Whether it’s Memorial Day in May, Independence Day in July or the unofficial end of summer party during Labor Day weekend in September – summer is prime time for parties.
As a host, there can be a lot of pressure to throw a fun party, and that often pushes people to spend a lot just to keep up with the last fun party they attended. The reality is that you can throw an entertaining party with all of your friends without spending a lot – if you’re smart about it.
1. Set a budget.
Set a budget of how much you want to spend on a party. The simple act of setting a budget, and sticking to it, will force you to make trade-offs and avoid feeling like you should offer the finest food and drinks. Without a number in your head, you’ll also be tempted to just buy more. And more. And more.

From Thrillist:
Last fall, Ben & Jerry's and New Belgium teamed up to create a Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale. Because that first experiment went so well, they're teaming up again -- makes sense, as the hugely popular companies both make serious, umm, dough. This time they're brewing a beer with a flavor profile from one of Ben & Jerry's most popular flavors of all time: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
Sometime this fall, New Belgium will release a six-pack of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ale, obviously based on B&J's chocolate chip cookie dough flavor that's objectively the eighth-best flavor in the company's scoop shops. The companies also guarantee that $50,000 of the proceeds will go towards climate change awareness group Protect Our Winters.

From Eater.com:
The soundtrack at your favorite bar matters
Not happy with the taste of your beer? Try changing the soundtrack. According to a new study out of Belgium, music can alter how people perceive the taste — and even the strength — of beer.
According to an abstract, the study — which was led by Dr. Felipe Carvalho of Vrije Universiteit Brussel — comprised of three experiments "in which participants tasted a beer twice, and rated the experience, each time under the influence of a different sound stimulus. The participants were not informed that they were, in fact, tasting the same beer." Volunteers at the Music Instruments Museum in Brussels tasted three different beers in a range of styles from pale ale to dark, with alcohol content that varied from 4.5 to 8 percent ABV. They were exposed to three different kinds of background music, and asked to taste and rate each beer while listening to each one.

From PRNewswire.com:
PISCATAWAY, N.J., June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Think about the last time you needed more shower time. Was this extra time taken to rinse the shampoo out of your hair or to make sure you got the perfect selfie? If you answered more time for shower selfies, you aren't alone. In fact, American Standard surveyed 1,200 consumers nationwide, between the ages of 18 to 65, yielding intriguing findings on rituals and habits that occur behind the shower or bath curtain.
The study revealed 57 percent more shower users than bathers admitted to taking selfies in the shower more than once a week. Also, 53 percent of consumers favor "tinkle time" by admitting to peeing in the shower. Furthermore, cleaning the shower naked is common as almost half of those who shower surveyed say they have done it. Forty-one percent more women than men say they clean the shower naked.

Bee Anantatho was very proud when her restaurant, Thailicious in Edgewater, received a $1,088 tip from a customer this weekend. She and her husband, Surachai Surabotsopon, emigrated from Bangkok to Colorado about five years ago, and opened their Thai restaurant — which specializes in Bangkok-style Thai cuisine — a few years ago. They’ve been steadily building a loyal fan base, and the eye-popping tip seemed to validate their venture.

The much-heralded deep-fried Twinkie has, until this point, not only been the pinnacle of human culinary achievement, but it's also existed as the holy grail of state-fair foods, a kind of sugar-laden cake mush all enrobed in a shell of crisp-fried batter. And now Hostess has unveiled a prepackaged version, meaning you can get at least some of the effect at home.R

From Cosmopolitan:
In a perfect world, women would be able to tell creepy guys at bars, "I don't want to go out with you," and they'd leave them alone. You should never hesitate to say this outright, but occasionally, you may run up against a guy who can't quite take the very obvious hint. With that in mind, here are 12 totally ridiculous (but probably very effective) ways to get that bar creeper to stop asking you out.
1. "Sorry, I'm actually moving to a foreign country for witness protection reasons." I saw a guy ask a woman out and she said no and then he wouldn't leave her alone. It was a truly horrible crime to witness and now I have to move. Where? The moon.

From UPI.com:
Nothing seems better on a hot day than hopping into a cool swimming pool.
But, new research might prompt you to shower first and make sure your kids don't pee in the water.
Researchers from the University of South Carolina report that the disinfectants used to keep pools clean can create dangerous disinfection byproducts (DBPs) when combined with sweat, personal care products and urine.
Some of these byproducts have caused genetic damage to cells in laboratory tests, while other reports have found higher rates of bladder cancer and respiratory issues in people who are around pools regularly, the researchers said.
And though the study findings held true for public pools, private pools and hot tubs, the researchers flagged indoor pools and hot tubs as a top concern, too.

West Fargo, ND (WDAY News) - A tragedy was narrowly avoided today at a west Fargo apartment.
A deck started on fire while the person inside was sleeping, but he was saved by some unlikely heroes whose firefighting tools are usually considered toys.
Firefighters normally have hoses and tanker trucks to knock down flames.
These ones, well, let's just say they used their resources at hand.
What a better way to kick off summer vacation, than with a water fight.

From Thrillist:
In the tip-happy (read: low-wage) US of A, figuring out when, who, and how much to tip in every bar-going scenario is enough to make a person's head spin. Do beertenders deserve less than mixologists? Am I supposed to compensate for happy hour discounts? If auto-gratuity's been added, is a little extra on top expected? What if that seriously good-looking barkeep just hooked me up with a round of free shots?
Oy, who needs a drink?
To get to the bottom of proper tip etiquette, we enlisted the help of Hayley Karl from Mugs Alehouse -- one friendly-yet-firm NYC bartender with over 10 years experience behind the taps -- to give us the expectations and the ideals. Customers, of course, don't have to follow these guidelines, but your bartender will probably think you're a dirtbag if you don't.
